I received two e-mails today warning me about a children's movie that is coming out, it is called "The Golden Compass". Here is what the e-mail says:
The movie "The Golden Compass" is based on the first book in a trilogy. The author of this trilogy is an atheist and has admitted he is trying to influence children against God. The movie stars Nicole Kidman, so this will get a lot of publicity. Spread the word to your friends, and consider the outcome if we all refuse to take our children.
Oh my! I better lock the kids up and never let them out of the house. Apparently all it takes to unravel any influence I have had on them is a movie. Who would have thought that almost 7 years of parenting could be wiped out like that!?! Is there a Blockbuster where I can rent the movie to make my children love God?
I know so many people who won't let their children watch certain shows because of this fear that they have. I think it's absurd. I'm not saying we shouldn't monitor what our kids watch, but to think a movie could succeed in turning our children against God is ridiculous.
I believe children watch us during the daily grind of life, and their hearts respond to consistency.
You might look at your child and wonder if anything you've said or done has sunk in. I promise you, it has. When you faithfully seek God in your life, your children really will notice. When you take a genuine interest in them and build a connection with them, they really will cherish it. When you give them the chance to be part of the incredible work God is doing in the world, they really will rise to the occasion. Then, instead of treading the water waiting for the sharks to hit, they become the sharks, slicing through the currents of a secular culture without fear, teeth bared, and determined to make a difference in their world. |
